2022 State of the States Report: Conning Maintains Stable Outlook
Conning’s 2022 State of the States report features a highly interactive format that allows you to dive into the data that drives our annual evaluation of the credit quality of all 50 U.S. states.

Users can now examine in detail the 13 metrics we use to develop our report, segmenting the leaders and laggards by state and region to develop a better understanding of these factors. We also provide a listing of our overall State of the States rankings dating back to 2008 and offer a downloadable pdf of the 2022 report as well.

Conning’s new report finds that state credit quality recovered quickly in 2021 from the depths of the pandemic, driven by economic recovery and unprecedented federal stimulus. And while Western and Mountain states have increasingly led recent overall rankings, Florida, New Hampshire and Texas earned top-five spots this year.
